Thyroid Problems

Thyroid dysfunction is one of the most common, however usually missed diagnoses in women, men and children. Women suffer from thyroid disorders more than men due to the association of female hormones with thyroid glandular activity. About ten percent of women around the world suffer from this problem but only 1-2% are diagnosed. The difficulties in diagnosis is that the currently available and most commonly used protocol for diagnosing a thyroid problem is to test only one hormone – TSH, which is not the active thyroid hormone and in fact is not even secreted from the thyroid gland. In many cases, the level of TSH remains normal while hypothyroidism is present. Even when the blood test is normal and indicates, “It’s all in your head.” In fact, it’s almost true … “It’s all in your neck” (Thyroid position)

Thyroid hormones (thyroxine and T3) work in almost every cell in the body and their main activity is to regulate metabolism and energy levels. Since every cell in the body requires energy, thyroid dysfunction may lead to many severe symptoms and illnesses.

Symptoms of thyroid dysfunction include:

• Sensitivity to cold/Feeling cold

• Fatigue that does not improve with rest

• Difficulty losing weight

• Decrease in memory and concentration

• Depression

• Heart palpitations

• Dryness of skin and hair

• Hair Loss

• Weak and brittle nails

• Loss of eyebrows, especially in the outer third

• Menstrual problems

• Muscle weakness and joint pain

• Fertility issues

• Low resistance to tensions

• Recurrent infections

• Constipation

• High cholesterol

If there is a need according to each patients unique situation, we offer the necessary blood testing including freeT3, freeT4, thyroid antibodies, iodine and other tests to understand the cause of the problem and to develop a treatment plan tailored to the patient’s needs with the aim of bringing the patient back to full health.
